Main Course aims to achieve a high standard of academic and everyday English communication skills. It covers the four main skills of: Reading. Writing. Listening and Speaking.
This Writing course aims at providing students with the writing skills essential to their successful undertaking of academic work at English universities. Strategies will be learned to improve reading and writing skills and a variety of activities will be completed to improve performance (extensive and intensive reading, journal writing, compositions in a variety of rhetorical styles, etc.). The coursebook Effective Academic Writing is a four-level academic writing skills course with integrated online practice and support that teaches the complete academic writing process from sentence level to researched essay.
Effective Academic Writing instills student confidence and provides the tools necessary for successful academic writing. More content-area related assignments with more academic vocabulary and readings prepare students for the challenges of the academic classroom. Each unit introduces an academic content theme and writing task and guides students through the Writing Process The new Introductory Level provides students with the support and instruction they need for writing success in the lowest-level writing courses.
The class will be mixed of different groups of students from different departments. The student will study specific English language (English for careers).The course has a multilayered, topic based syllabus, which includes thorough and comprehensive work on grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and the skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing. We aim to motivate students by basing modules around up-to-date topics of international interest. Students are encouraged to learn more about the world and other cultures through the medium of English, and personalization is strongly emphasized. Learners are encouraged to take an active, systematic approach to developing their knowledge of grammar.And the opportunity to use new language is provided in a natural, communicative way. A wide vocabulary is vital to communicative success, so new lexis introduced and practiced at every stage in the course. Particular attention will be paid to the selection of high frequency, internationally useful words and phrases. Vocabulary input is closely related to the topics and tasks in the modules, allowing plenty of natural recycling. Learners are encouraged to refer to Mini-dictionary throughout the course, which includes the entries for words and phrases appropriate to the level of the learner.
There are structured speaking tasks in each file, which include interviews, mini-talks, problem solving and storytelling. The central element in learners’ progress is the frequent performance of such tasks that provide the opportunity for realistic and extended communication.
